Raccoons (Procyon lotor) are highly adaptable urban wildlife that thrive in Miami-Dade's suburban neighborhoods. The combination of year-round warm temperatures, abundant food sources (fruit trees, garbage, pet food), and aging housing stock with deteriorating soffits and roof vents creates ideal conditions for raccoon intrusion in Miami homes.
Female raccoons are especially problematic: they actively seek elevated, enclosed spaces like attics to den and give birth — typically producing 2–5 kits per litter. Once a raccoon establishes a denning site in your attic, the contamination begins immediately. A raccoon latrinearea — where they repeatedly defecate in the same location — can deposit thousands of roundworm eggs (Baylisascaris procyonis) in insulation, posing a serious ongoing health hazard for the home's occupants.
Beyond health risks, raccoons cause significant structural damage: they tear through soffit panels to create or enlarge entry points, compress and contaminate attic insulation, chew HVAC ductwork, and occasionally gnaw electrical wiring.
Our Raccoon Removal Process
We inspect the entire exterior of your home — roofline, soffit, fascia, vents — to identify all active entry points and assess interior attic use, including latrine area location, insulation damage, and any nesting sites with young.
Cage traps are placed at active entry points and travel routes, baited and monitored daily per Florida FWC regulations. If juvenile raccoons are present in the attic, they are hand-removed before trapping adults to prevent juveniles being stranded.
All entry points are sealed using galvanized hardware cloth, sheet metal flashing, and professional-grade sealant. We address every gap, not just the primary entry, to prevent raccoons from simply creating a new entrance.
Contaminated insulation is removed and disposed of safely. The attic space is treated with enzyme-based sanitizers to break down urine and fecal matter and eliminate pheromone markers that attract future wildlife to the same location.
New blown-in insulation is installed to restore the thermal performance of your attic and complete the restoration after raccoon contamination removal.
